Teche Regional Medical Center recently announced that Maria Gaudet has been recognized as the hospital’s 2019 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint Health’s hospitals who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.

The Mercy Award is an annual recognition program established in 2002 to honor the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.

“At Teche Regional Medical Center, we share LifePoint’s commitment to making communities healthier, and we recognize this is supported by the good work and service of our employees both on and off the job,” said Aphreikah DuHaney-West, CEO of Teche Regional Medical Center. “We are extremely proud to recognize Maria for her efforts on behalf of our patients and our community. She goes above and beyond each and every day to ensure that every person she encounters receives the highest level of care and compassion.”

“Maria has been a valuable member of the cardiopulmonary staff and Teche team as a Respiratory Therapist for 29 years. She is a mentor and a leader in the department.  She is the heart and soul of what the Mercy Award represents.  She is a giving person, always giving of her time and talents,” said Raymond Pisani, Director of Teche Regional’s Cardiopulmonary Department.

Maria goes out of her way to help those in need.  As an example, when she found out that one of her discharged patients was in need of some help, she delivered food and clothing to the patient’s home.  She also donated her bicycle to a man who was walking over six miles daily to visit a patient at our facility. Maria quietly goes above and beyond to care for our facility and for our community,” added Pisani.
